This is the best recipe for making blue cheese dressing at home. Its smooth and extra creamy texture makes it perfect for tossing with salad and also a delicious dipping sauce. It is very simple and always better than store-bought blue cheese dressing. Almost all the ingredients needed to make the blue cheese dressing are easily available and probably present in the kitchen already.

  • Mayonnaise:
    1/4 cup mayonnaise
To make the best and yummy blue cheese dressing, use a combination of mayonnaise and sour cream. It will make an extra creamy dressing. You can also make the mayonnaise at home. Mayonnaise is heavy itself and also gives a smooth and heavy texture to the dressing.

  • Sour cream:
    1/4 cup sour cream
Sour cream is a game-changer. If we add sour cream along with mayonnaise it will lighten up the dressing a bit.

  • Blue cheese:
    2 ounces crumbled blue cheese
You are free to choose any type of blue cheese, but one should choose a blue cheese that is not too costly and also tastes rich and creamy. Gorgonzola is the best option.

  • Fresh parsley:
    1 tablespoon finely grounded parsley
Fresh herbs have high nutritional value and can be added to blue cheese dressings to introduce color and flavor to the dressing.

  • Salt:
    A pinch of sea salt
Both cheese and mayonnaise contain a little amount of salt in it, but you can also add additional salt in it to the dressing to enhance its flavor.

  • Pepper:
A pinch of freshly grounded pepper
Pepper adds extra spice to our blue cheese dressing.

  • Milk or water:
Optional, just to thin out the dressing
The thick dressing is perfect for dipping but to make it pourable, such as a salad dressing, you will have to add a little amount of water or milk in it

  • Lemon juice:
    1 tablespoon lemon juice, optional
Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, it will add citrus flavor in the blue cheese dressing. But it is optional. If you like its flavor than you can add it, otherwise you are free to skip this ingredient.

  • Take all the ingredients and measure them. Add mayonnaise, parsley, sour cream, salt, lemon juice, pepper, blue cheese in a container and mix well all the ingredients to get completely blended, smooth mixture.
  • It is recommended to use the back of the spoon to press the leftover crumbles of blue cheese into the sauce. It will give some extra flavor. Thick blue cheese dressing is perfectly well for dips. But if you want a pourable dressing like for salads, just add a splash of milk, water, or buttermilk.
  • Taste it and add a small amount of lemon juice if needed. To store this dressing keep this blue cheese dressing in an airtight container and place it in the refrigerator for one week.
