Cream cheese banana bread is one of my favorite baked food ever. It is a type of bread that is made from mashed bananas. It is a cake-like, sweet, and moist type of bread. The National banana day celebration is on the 23rd of February every year. Bananas first appeared in the US in the 1870s and it was long enough before people in the US took it as an ingredient for their desserts. The banana bread recipe that is being used in modern times was published in cookbooks around the 1930s. It started becoming popular and this led to the introduction of baking powder in the market.

Some historians who mainly talked about food and recipes believed that the banana bread was a byproduct of the great depression. This is because resourceful housewives did not want to throw away ripe bananas and they chose to make bread with their ripe bananas. Another reason why they did not want to throw away the bananas was that they were costly to buy. Other food historians also believed that the modern banana bread recipe was developed to help in promoting kitchen products such as flour and baking soda. There are different variations of the banana bread and they include the following. 

  • The normal banana bread
  • Banana bread with raisins. 
  • Banana nut bread. This type of banana bread usually involved chopped nuts, mostly walnuts. The nuts are then added to the recipe. 
  • Chocolate chip banana bread. This is a type of banana bread that has a chocolate chip as part of the recipe. 
  • Banana bread muffins.
  • Vegan banana bread. This is the best banana bread for vegetarians as it does not include any egg or dairy products.

The other way that I use to make my banana bread with cream cheese is as follows.

Ingredients

  • Bananas

  • 2 eggs

  • All-purpose flour

  • Cooking spray

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ¼ regular granulated sugar.

  • ¼ cup oil

  • Sour cream

  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon of Baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda.

  • Salt

  • 1 cream cheese block

Directions

  • For the cream cheese:
  • Add the block of the cheese.
  • ¼ cup of regular sugar
  • Add one egg.
  • 2 tablespoon of all-purpose flour.
  • Mix using an electric mixer until it forms a thick and creamy consistency.
  • Procedure
  • Spray your baking pan with a little bit of the cooking spray
  • Then sprinkle a bit of all-purpose flour and let is settle.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  • Break the egg into a bowl.
  • Add the ½ cup of brown sugar.
  • Add the ¼ granulated sugar.
  • Add ¼ cup of any oil of your choice.
  • Add ¼ cup of sour cream.
  • Add 2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Whisk the mixture together until all the ingredients are well mixed.
  • Add your bananas to the mixture. Dark or almost back bananas are the best because the darker the banana the sweeter the banana bread.
  • Mix the bananas in to the mixture. Do not worry about the banana chunks in the mixture. If you are looking for a smooth texture then mix the mixture smoothly, but if you want to feel the banana flavor, then leave some chunks in the mixture.
  • Add 1 cup of all-purpose flour to the mixture.
  • Add ½ teaspoon of baking powder.
  • Add ½ teaspoon of baking soda.
  • Add a pinch of salt.
  • Whisk everything together until to get a thick consistency. Do not over mix.
  • Take the already greased baking dish and pour about ¾ of the banana filing and spread it all over the pan.
  • Then add the cream cheese filling on top of the banana filling.
  • Then add evenly the remaining of the banana mixture and spread well.
  • Put the mixture in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  • Let cool, cut and serve as desired.
